Modern Farm

Tackling water scarcity through Internet of Things (IoT)

Location: Baghdad

Host: Oxfam Iraq

Funding Needed: $20,000

The innovation uses smart technology powered by solar panels to control irrigation.

The Problem

The existing farm was damaged by ISIS and traditional farming techniques have not been able to respond or recover from the damage, and are unable to meet new environmental challenges.

The Solution

Modern Farm is an innovative system that is connected by sensors to measure temperature, humidity, wind speed, light, and dozens of other information. Through this system, irrigation can be controlled smartly, as well as using solar panels for the purpose of generating electrical energy and using a smartphone for the purpose of monitoring and controlling the farm and remote control. The system solves some of the most important challenges facing Iraq, such as:

  • electric power

  • stopping the waste of water and reducing manpower

  • monitoring the growth of plants automatically, effectively and scientifically, and in accordance with standard specifications

  • a training program has been prepared for the method of use in an easy and clear manner
