A challenge experienced in Iraq is the lack of access to sanitary towels and livelihood opportunities for displaced women and girls in camps. A local solution developed has set up disposable sanitary towels factories led and managed by women who will produce tailored disposable pads using special machines for sanitary towel production.

Given the proven importance of handwashing against the spread of diseases and viruses, the soap shortage poses a real threat where people live in densely populated areas. As a solution, Oxfam has found a way to use the waste of cooking oil as a raw material to produce soap locally.
