Towards a Green Desert

Integrated and advanced automated irrigation system.

Location: Anbar

Host: Oxfam Iraq

Funded by IRIL

A system that aims to support farmers in improving their irrigation practices and reducing water consumption by using sensors that detect the change in the soil's moisture levels under the plants and trigger the irrigation process remotely. This process is also entirely powered by a solar system.

The Problem

Water scarcity and lack of technological solutions to provide water for irrigation.

The Solution

Provide the local market with applicable and modern irrigation systems. Through this project, local farmers can use high-tech solutions to implement their farming activities. This helps farmers in the Iraqi context to battle water scarcity and learn the best practices in water management for irrigation. The project team developed a mobile application to operate the irrigation system and they are using solar energy instead of fuel for the equipment.

Where is Towards a green desert now

The IOT system remains in Anbar University, and it remains operational. The innovator now is seeking to mass produce his system through partnerships with factories across seas. Towards a Green Desert is actively seeking funding to help their innovation move forward. If you want to support the start up grow and develop, please contact us.
