Katikamu Empowered Youth Development Group

Urban farming and digital marketing training

The group exposes urban and prospective farmers especially the youth to urban agriculture techniques through scheduled monthly training sessions which take into consideration the limitations they face in the cities and the current land pressures faced by rural dwellers. These new approaches and techniques include hydroponics and vertical gardening concepts, recycling among others.

The group is also building a network of youth farmers who benefit from their continuous support, including sourcing for the market for their ready vegetable and spice products. They also distribute quality seedlings to the youth for free on visiting their demo farm. In turn, they tap into this network to ensure a consistent and controlled supply of vegetables and spices for the different demand seasons. This has been vital in encouraging and attracting young people to joining farming.

The group is leveraging the popularity of online platforms for example WhatsApp and Facebook to reach out to the vast community of online users. They have also created an online marketplace with the host farm regenesis mixed farm in Bukalasa, Luweero (www.regenesismixedfarm.com) to ensure that the growing online community of Ugandans have access to fresh vegetable supply straight from the farm.
