Children of the Nations Uganda

Counselors on Motorbikes Initiative

With the outbreak of COVID-19, the staff of Children of the Nations Uganda was no longer able to meet children on their school campus. Through the “Counsellors on Motorbikes” Initiative, Children of the Nations Uganda has helped their staff assess the developmental, social-emotional, mental, and behavioral health needs of 292 children while at their homes. The initiative also enabled accelerated assessment of welfare conditions in the families of the 292 children living in the villages surrounding the campus at Anai Okii in Lira District. The initiative also aided increased access to the Children of the Nation’s counseling services for children in the villages thus positively impacting their psychological functioning, emotional adjustment, health, and developmental trajectory with positive long-term implications for their mental and emotional health in adulthood. Child protection systems in the community were also strengthened. Children of the Nations Uganda was also able to extend Parental support and the transfer of effective coping strategies to the guardians of children experiencing mental distress.
